Alienware 16X Aurora (2025)

Our take: The Alienware 16X Aurora (2025) is a maybe-buy on a deep sale if you want a better-built Alienware mid-range laptop with a much faster screen than their cheaper Aurora 16. Best for buyers who like Alienware’s design and want decent gaming performance, good battery life, Advanced Optimus, G-Sync, and solid upgrade options. Skip it if you want the best value, quiet high-performance modes, OLED, more than 8GB VRAM, or software that feels polished.
Configs to buy / avoid: Buy the RTX 5060 config, it offers great mid-range performance without overpaying for the RTX 5070. The 5070 is only ~15% faster in games, but the price gap is usually much larger than this, resulting in diminishing returns with the top-end 5070 configuration.
Testing notes: The 16X Aurora delivered good RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 gaming performance after Dell’s BIOS and VBIOS fixes, around 7 hours of YouTube playback on battery, a bright 500 screen with fast response time, Advanced Optimus, G-Sync, Thunderbolt 4, two RAM slots, two M.2 slots, upgradeable Wi-Fi, and a useful BIOS.
Trade-offs: The main compromises were the painfully slow Alienware Command Center software loading, early GPU power limit bugs (since resolved with a Dell update), loud high-performance fan behavior on the RTX 5060 model, a bulky charger on the RTX 5070 model, dim keyboard lighting, tiny arrow keys, a small touchpad, bad Latencymon results, and no RTX 5070 Ti option for more VRAM.
Alternatives: If the 16X Aurora is not heavily discounted, consider the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i because it has a better keyboard, better screen options, quieter fans, stronger CPU performance, and an RTX 5070 Ti option with more VRAM. If you want Alienware specifically, wait for a really good sale.
