HP Omen 16 (2025)

Our take: The HP Omen 16 (2025) is a clear buy on sale if you want full-powered RTX 5060 gaming performance, excellent battery life, and decent thermals without paying premium laptop prices. Best for value-focused gamers who want solid 1080p/1200p gaming and long battery life away from the charger when not gaming. Skip it if you want premium build quality, Advanced Optimus, G-Sync, clean software, or good upgrade access.
Configs to buy / avoid: Buy the RTX 5060 config with the upgraded brighter 165Hz screen, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD for the best balance of price, performance, battery life, and screen quality. Avoid the lower-quality 144Hz 300-nit screen unless the price is much lower, and avoid spending more on the 2560x1600 screen if you are worried about 8GB VRAM limits.
Testing notes: The Omen 16 proved this with one of the longest battery runtimes we've ever recorded, a full-powered RTX 5060 that beat some lower-powered RTX 5070 laptops in our game tests, good temperatures, lower fan noise than most gaming laptops, a bright screen with sub-5ms response times on the upgraded 165Hz panel.
Trade-offs: The main compromises are the budget-feeling plastic build, no premium features like Advanced Optimus or G-Sync, bloated Omen Hub software, awkward Wi-Fi upgrade access under the cooler, only one USB-C port, and possible battery drain under extended heavy CPU/GPU load.
Alternatives: If you want better build quality or features, consider the ASUS TUF F16 or Lenovo Legion 5 depending on sale pricing.
