Configs to buy / avoid: A bigger chassis like this is able to get the most out of higher end GPUs like the RTX 5080 and 5090. We generally recommend spending less money on a different laptop if you're after RTX 5070 Ti graphics. The optional mechanical keyboard is personal preference, it feels nice to use, but the loud noise won't be nice for others if you take it to school or the office. Testing notes: The Area-51 delivered top-tier CPU performance, full-powered graphics, strong gaming and creator results, a bright 550 nit IPS screen, fast response times, Advanced Optimus, G-Sync, good Wi-Fi 7, a fast SD card reader, and three M.2 SSD slots. Trade-offs: The main compromises were its very heavy weight, a large charger, average battery life, no ethernet, soldered Wi-Fi, weak speakers, difficult bottom panel removal, and a slippery glass bottom panel that makes it slip when using it on your lap. The screen is great for IPS, but buyers wanting OLED or Mini-LED should look elsewhere. Alternatives: Alienware laptops are expensive, but Dell occasionally runs some steep discounts - subscribe with our email alerts so you don't miss out. If the IPS screen is a deal breaker, check out the newer 2026 model, which added an OLED screen.
