Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024)

Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024)
Our take: The Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) is a clear buy if you want a solid budget gaming laptop with good build quality, strong upgrade options, and useful gaming features for the price. Best for budget-focused gamers who want a practical laptop rather than a thin or premium machine. Skip it if you need great battery life, or a system that never drains battery under heavy load.
Configs to buy / avoid: Buy the Nvidia GeForce config, ideally RTX 3050, 4050, 5050 or 5060. Avoid the Intel Arc A530M model at all costs due to poor performance and game optimizations. If Lenovo offer the option of 60Wh and 80Wh batteries, it's worth spending a little extra for the higher capacity battery option. Testing notes: The LOQ 15 delivered solid thermals, quieter fans than last year, full-powered RTX 3050 performance on the Nvidia model, two RAM slots, two double-sided M.2 SSD slots, Advanced Optimus and G-Sync on the Nvidia version, and excellent Linux support. Trade-offs: The main compromises were mediocre battery life with the 60Wh battery in our unit, some battery drain during long CPU and GPU stress loads, a grippy feeling plastic touchpad, average speakers, weak Wi-Fi speed, no Advanced Optimus on the Intel Arc version, and a 1080p screen with only average response times. Alternatives: If a last-gen LOQ with RTX 4050 is cheaper, consider that instead because it provides better gaming performance for the money.
