Configs to buy / avoid: Buy the RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080 config with the 2560x1600 240Hz screen, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD because the better panel makes the laptop worth using every day. Avoid the cheaper 1080p 45% NTSC screen unless you mostly dock to an external monitor. Otherwise it does not make sense to save a little money getting a 5070 Ti tier GPU with a low resolution, low quality panel. Avoid the AMD HX CPU option if you want good battery life, Intel lasts longer, but usually costs more. Testing notes: The Vector 16 delivered full-powered RTX 5070 Ti performance, strong 1440p gaming results, a bright 500 nit QHD+ screen, 3.8ms response time, Thunderbolt 5, Wi-Fi 7, good battery life compared to other Intel HX laptops, excellent Linux support, and MSI’s very advanced BIOS tuning. Trade-offs: The main compromises were very loud fans in extreme mode, no Advanced Optimus, no G-Sync, difficult bottom panel removal, awkward rear port access, a loose-feeling touchpad on our unit, weak performance while running on battery power, and the bad 1080p screen option. Alternatives: If the Vector 16 only comes with the weak 1080p screen in your region, consider spending more for the RTX 5080 version with the QHD+ screen or wait for a better configuration. If quiet operation and polish matter more than raw value, compare it against Lenovo’s Legion Pro 5i or HP's Omen Max 16 instead, both of which also have great sales, but don't end up as cheap compared to the Vector.
